Department of Microbiology

Establishment of Department:

Department of Microbiology was established as mother department simultaneously with establishment of Sant Tukaram Arts and Science College, Parbhani in the year 1998.The Department of industrial microbiology was sanctioned by University Grant commission as a post graduate course under its innovative program and established in 2008-09.

Courses Offered:
B.Sc. Microbiology as Optional Subject (Three Year Course with VI Semesters)
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed 10+2 or equivalent
M.Sc. Industrial Microbiology (Two Year Corse with IV Semesters)
Eligibility: A candidate who has passed B.Sc. degree with Microbiology or Industrial Microbiology as one of the optional subject.

About the course:

Microbiologists contribute greatly to understanding of life through enhancement and intervention of microorganisms. Advancement in the field of science and technology and involvement of microbiology in many fields like medicine, pharmacy, dairy, water, agriculture industry, chemical technology and nanotechnology the demand of microbiologist is continuously increasing in India and globally.
Industrial Microbiology is the application of scientific and engineering principle to the processing of materials by microorganisms to create useful products. Industrial Microbiology is an upper level course, aimed at post-Graduate level that is designed for biology as majors who wants to expand their knowledge of microscopic world

Career opportunities:

Microbiologist can work in the area of food, medicine, pharmacy, dairy, water, agriculture industry, biotechnology bio-energy, environment, pollution control, bioremediation chemical technology and nanotechnology.
In the field of agriculture, Microbiologists can acts as environmental and health specialist to study the role of microbes in plant disease, pest control, nutrition and soil fertility. In the field of medicine and health care, the work is usually associated with diagnosis of illness associated with microbes.
Universities and colleges employ microbiologists as researcher and teachers.
